Ranchi: Two men on a bike snatched gold and silver jewellery worth around Rs 5 lakh from a Jharkhand High Court advocate near his residence in Sector II of Jagannathpur on Wednesday.
Manoj Kumar (58) was returning home, along with son Ashish Anand (26) who is a Supreme Court lawyer, from the SBI's local branch after collecting the valuables from the locker around 1pm when he was targeted.
Police who have lodged an FIR and acquired CCTV camera footage from the bank said the snatchers were in their thirties. Jagannathpur thana OC Anup Kumar Karmakar said all Mobile Tiger units and PCR vans had been alerted. "The suspects were riding a red bike," he said.
Sources in the family said the father-son duo had gone to bring the jewellery so that Manoj's wife and daughter-in-law could wear them for Teej festivities that are underway.
"They travelled home from the bank in their car, but as soon as Manoj got off near the building and Anand went to park the car, the bikers whizzed past and took the bag of jewellery," said a relative.
Both father and son raised an alarm, but it was too late. The snatchers fled towards Sector II, Dhurwa, family sources added.
Surveillance camera clues helped police arrest two chain snatchers in Ranchi on Wednesday.
