Gangster Akhilesh Singh, who was arrested by a joint team of Jharkhand and Haryana police on Wednesday, was sent to Bhondsi district jail in Gurgaon on Friday.

Akhilesh (39), carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh, had sustained bullet wounds on both legs in the police encounter at a guesthouse in Gurgaon and was in hospital.

"Police had taken the accused to court on Thursday. However, due to the delay in completing formalities, he was taken back to hospital. On Friday, he was directly sent to 14-day judicial remand," East Singhbhum SP (rural) Prabhat Kumar said.

Jharkhand police will interrogate the gangster once he is brought to Jamshedpur, Kumar said, adding efforts were underway to secure his transit remand soon.

"We will request the Jamshedpur court to issue a production warrant in a case in which Akhilesh was wanted and submit it in Gurgaon court with the plea for his transit remand," a policeman said.
