Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Eye Hospital at Sakchi is upgrading. Besides introducing state-of-the-art surgical procedures, it also came up with its website, www.jeh.org.in, on Wednesday.

"With support of the team, we have done new things. Our objective is to make the hospital a one-stop shop for eye care," said hospital president Ruchi Narendran.

Initially, the website will provide information about doctors, eye-care tips and services offered by the hospital. "As of now, the website will only share information. Gradually, we will add more features," said S.P. Jakhanwal, senior consultant of the hospital.

The institute will start a special cornea service for patients from January 28 for which a specialist from Shankar Netralaya will be available full-time. The hospital has also decided to start TPA (third party administrator) services for patients who have medical insurance.

"We will renovate the hospital completely. The patients' seating area has already been refurbished. We are now giving a new look to the doctors' chambers," said Jakhanwal.

Over the past few months, the hospital has introduced paediatric opthalmology and squint surgery and plans to introduce an SMS service for patients visiting the OPD.

It has also trained 24 youths from various panchayats of East Singhbhum so that they can perform vision tests when the hospital organises eye camps in rural areas with the support of Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS). These youths from various blocks have undergone a seven-day training and are capable of screening patients at the first step.

The hospital also plans to train youths on handling patients post-surgery so that they can be the first contact in case of post-operative concerns.
