Dhanbad: A 30-year-old man was found hanging from a ceiling rod in his room at a hotel here on Friday morning.

A resident of Nawagarh area of Tundi, Ashish Kumar was a helper at the kitchen of Hotel Vasundhara at Hirapur here.

Police said they found a suicide note in which Ashish blamed childhood friend and fellow-villager Dinesh Rawani for not returning Rs 4.90 lakh which the latter had taken from him promising high returns after investing it in some business. This compelled him to take his own life, the two-page letter written in Hindi, reportedly read.

The incident came to light at 7am when repeated knocks on Ashish's room's door by the hotel staff elicited no response. Suspecting something was amiss, they informed police. Soon, a team from Dhanbad sadar police station led by assistant sub-inspector Markendey Mishra arrived and broke open the door to find Ashish hanging with a towel wrapped around his neck.

Speaking to newsmen, Mishra said, "We are investigating the case. The body has been sent for post mortem. We are verifying the details of the suicide note."

Hotel owner Amitesh Sahay said, "Ashish was working as a helper at the kitchen since the last seven to eight years. We didn't notice any abnormal behaviour for all these years."

The hotel's nightshift in-charge Niru Rajak said, "He was normal till last night and retired to his room around midnight after having dinner with us. This morning we suspected something was amiss because despite being an early riser, he didn't wake up till 7am and also didn't respond to our calls."

Asked if he had any altercation with anyone, Rajak said Ashish shared no such information with them.
