Jamshedpur: Those with holiday plans to the abode of Lord Jagannath this month, particularly during September 14-20 and September 21-24, may have to reschedule as train services are likely to be disrupted, resulting in some cancellations, as Puri station is being remodelled.

According to spokesperson of South Eastern Railway (SER), as many as 10 to 11 passenger trains would be cancelled because of modernisation work at Puri where some platforms are being extended and the yard is being remodelled.

Most of the cancelled trains run between Calcutta and Puri via Kharagpur and other routes. Journeys of as many as four trains would be truncated.

He said schedules of several Puri-bound trains that go via Tatanagar, including the Purushottam Superfast Express and Utkal Express, would be disrupted for 11 days.

According to a circular issued by SER headquarters Garden Reach on Tuesday, the Rourkela-Puri Passenger will be cancelled for 11 days during September 14-24 and the return train during September 15-25.

The Sambalpur-Puri Intercity Express will ply up to Khurda Road. In its return journey, the train will start from Khurda Road instead of Puri. Services between Khurda Road and Puri-Khurda Road will be cancelled during September 14-24.

Officials at Garden Reach said announcements would be made on the public address system at Tatanagar and other railway stations so that passengers are not inconvenienced.

"Apart from sending an intimation about disruption in train services between September 14 and 24, we have also issued public notices in various newspapers to inform people," said an official.

He said those who had already booked tickets in trains that get cancelled will get full refund.
