Carmel, Kerala Public shine - First inter-school team chess meet kicks off

Jamshedpur, July 27: Carmel Junior College and Kerala Public School, Kadma, checkmated others in junior and senior categories, respectively, on the inaugural day of the maiden inter-school team chess tournament.
The tourney is being held at Carmel Junior College for three days.
At the end of third round in junior section today, Carmel topped the table with 11 points, while DBMS English School and Delhi Public School followed with 10 and 9.5 points, respectively. The host’s top players Vatsal Singhania, Ishan Gupta and Bidisha Roy got strong support from underdog Umang Rupani.
In senior category, Kerala Public School, captained by Fide-rated Shubham Srivastava, emerged topper with 10 points. Loyola School and DBMS English School finished close with 9.5 and 9 points, respectively.
The tournament, the first- of-its-kind in the steel city, was inaugurated by principal of Loyola School Father Sebastian Puthenpura. Carmel manager Sister Naina De Silva and principal Sister M. Selvie were present. The game is being played in a league system of nine rounds and will continue till Monday. Four rounds will be staged tomorrow, while two are reserved for the final day.
