Jamshedpur, March 28: Tata Football Academy (TFA) grad Branco Vincent Cardozo can now look forward to buy a plot of land and chip in with funds for helping out his sibling to buy a property in his native place Margaon.

The prodigious midfielder, who was among the graduates from the TFA today, struck a record deal with Calcutta glamour club Mohun Bagan. The 21-year-old has inked a two-year contract with the club for Rs 20 lakh.

On the convocation ceremony held at Centre for Excellence this afternoon, the youngster said he would like to spend the contract money judiciously. “I will help my elder brother Christopher to buy a flat in Margaon. I also have plans to buy a plot of land to build a house,” Branco said.

Branco, who last year donned the senior Indian team jersey in the pre-Olympic qualifiers, said it was Christopher who was instrumental in his becoming a footballer.

Talking about the offers that came his way he said: “East Bengal was willing to pay me Rs 30 lakh for two seasons but by the time the offer came, I had already made a commitment to Mohun Bagan. I also got offers from Goan club but I wanted to play outside my home state.”

Sources in the TFA said Branco has landed the best ever deal the cadets got.

Branco will not suffer from loneliness in the Bagan camp as his TFA mates Rino Anto, Rakesh Masih, Lalramluaha, S. Henry Gangte, Karan Atwal and Cheeradeep Chattopadhya will also don the green-maroon jersey.
