A whirlwind date with PM

Dhanbad’s wait for its VVIP guest is finally over. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will touch down at Baliapur helipad, 22km from the coal town, at 4.18pm on Friday to lay online the foundation of various projects worth Rs 27,000 crore. The 10-minute ceremony will be preceded by an experience sharing session of scheme beneficiaries and followed by PM’s address to a gathering of around 60,000. He will fly back to Ranchi at 5pm. Traffic curbs

Restrictions have been imposed on several roads from 4pm on Thursday 

♦ No heavy vehicles are allowed on Govindpur-Baliapur road, Kalubathan-Baliapur road, Gol Building-Baliapur road, Kusmatand-Baliapur road, Sindri-Baliapur main road and Sindri-Baliapur road via Saharpura till 10pm on May 25

♦ Auto-rickshaw service to Shamim Chowk in Baliapur suspended till May 25 evening

 No curbs on private vehicles so far

Parking zones

As many as 15 parking lots have been developed around Baliapur airstrip for VIPs, mediapersons, support staff and general audience

Spot the birds

The PM’s aerial convoy will comprise six IAF choppers, which will take off from Bolpur in Bengal and land by turns on three helipads at Baliapur. The air fleet will depart for Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi, in a similar formation, with the PM on board, at 5pm. The helicopters of the Union ministers will, however, touch down in Sindri from where the VIPs will arrived at the venue by road

Centre stage

The 72ft by 24ft dais near the German hangar will accommodate Union fertiliser minister Ananth Kumar, who will address the gathering before the PM’s arrival; Union power minister R.K. Singh; minister of state for tribal affairs Sudarshan Bhagat; governor Droupadi Murmu; chief minister Raghubar Das; Dhanbad MP P.N. Singh; state art and culture minister Amar Kumar Bauri; state health minister Ramchandra Chandrvanshi and Sindri MLA Phulchand Mandal

The leading ladies

Ranchi Doordarshan presenter Rajshri Prasad is camping in Dhanbad since Wednesday. She will anchor the programme and will be assisted by students of SSLNT Women’s College. Falak Fatima, a botany student, said they were rehearsing on bouquet presentation. “I have participated in college functions, but this is different. I am a tad nervous,” she said.
Niharika Kumari, an English student, said they would reach the venue by 9am. “I am so excited. I am going to have a sleepless night,” she beamed

Trial run

An hour-long rehearsal was held in Baliapur on Thursday in the presence of Dhanbad deputy commissioner A. Dodde, SSP Manoj Ratan Chothe and a Special Protection Group team. A motorcade of six cars covered the 600 metres between the helipads and the hangar, which was followed by a mock foundation laying ceremony

Security drill in capital

As many as 700 policemen will be deployed at strategic locations across Ranchi during the PM’s visit. Night-long patrolling has been planned, besides vehicle checking and special vigil on hotels and lodges, said DSP (control room) T.K. Jha, who was present in a closed-door meeting with deputy commissioner Rai Mahimapat Ray, SDO Anjali Yadav, SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi and city SP Aman Kumar.“The PM is expected to hold a meeting with DCs of all districts at the airport for an hour from 6.20pm. Apart from deploying cops, we plan drone surveillance in the area,” he added.
