Ara: The Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU) administration spent Rs 86.76 lakh in litigation related to salary, pension, posting, land dispute of colleges, anomalies in admission, RTI, service matter and others between 2013 and 2018.

A number of cases are in progress in the Patna High Court, State Information Commission, Lok Adalat and Human Rights Commission but in most, the VKSU has reportedly suffered setbacks.

The matter came to light after a student leader of the National Students' Union of India sought this information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. He said that lakhs of rupees were misappropriated in the legal section of VKSU as the administration fell flat in most of the cases. He demanded removal of officials in the legal section and the advocates, as they never took the cases seriously, thereby causing great loss of money and prestige of the university.

He said the VKSU spent Rs 8.93 lakh in the 2013-2014 fiscal, while Rs 4.48 lakh in 2014-2015, Rs 24.91 lakh in 2015-2016, Rs 14.33 lakh in 2016-2017 and Rs 32.41 lakh in 2017-2018 fiscal and Rs 1.44 lakh from April 2018 to May 2018.

Expenditure on litigation may be cut short if the VKSU administration sorts out the problems of teachers and non-teaching employees amicably on time. When the employees are tired of running from pillar to post, they knock on the door of the court or lok adalat or State Information Commission or Human Rights Commission for redress.

At least eight advocates have been engaged to contest cases on behalf of the VKSU and the government fixes their remuneration but the VKSU have to pay it.

VKSU law officer Dr Krishna Mohan Kumar said the varsity won most of the cases but its administration had to face a lot of problems regarding service owing to some documents and papers.
