Patna, July 21: Police today said three men had been rounded up for investigations in the assault and loot incident in a high-profile area of the capital yesterday morning.
On Friday, Gauri Verma (43), an employee of the state vigilance department, was assaulted and her chain snatched by two criminals at Circular Road around 10.30am.
The incident had occurred metres away from the chief minister’s residence. The cops said the three persons had been chargesheeted earlier in similar cases. She suffered injuries on her head after being beaten up by the criminals when she resisted.
Patna city superintendent of police (SP) Jayant Kant told The Telegraph that it was yet to be verified if the detained persons had committed the crime.
“The persons have been detained. Our records show that they have been involved in quite a few chain-snatching incidents in the past. They had been chargesheeted as well. The verification process is on. The police will be in a position to make a comment on the same very soon. We are interrogating them for more information,” the officer said.
The officer said the victim was also being quizzed with regard to the physical appearance of the attackers.
“We are trying to talk to her. We are quizzing her in an attempt to know about the criminals’ physical features. We would try to find out if she clearly saw the attackers’ faces. If she can give us the right physical appearance, the police will be coming out with the sketches of the assailants. The detained persons will be produced in front of her for identification too,” the city SP added.
The woman had set out from her Police Colony residence in Anisabad on an autorickshaw that dropped her off a few hundred metres from the vigilance office at Circular Road.
The site of the incident is a VIP locality housing residences of high court judges and ministers and is considered to be the best in terms of security with policemen posted and patrolling the area 24x7.
