Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar should learn a lesson from his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu who pulled his party ministers out of the Union cabinet on Wednesday over denial of special status to Andhra, leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said on Thursday.
"The Bihar CM mortgaged the rightful demand of special status to Bihar in lieu of special bungalow in Delhi and Z-plus security for himself," Tejashwi alleged.
"Nitish ji is a spineless CM. He must apologise to the people of Bihar. If Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Centre reject the demand of special category status to Bihar, Nitishji should listen his antar aatma (conscience) and should immediately quit the NDA."
Tejashwi also alleged that Nitish is under fear of some hidden CD and file due to which he was not able to speak about special status to Bihar in front of the PM.
On February 5 this year, Tejashwi had written to Nitish asking why special status to Bihar was neglected in the Union budget. In the letter Tejashwi had said that neither was the special status given to Bihar given nor the special package.
"Nitish ji did not reply to my letter," Tejashwi said on Thursday. "I had requested him but he outright neglected my letter. He must dare to ask for special status to Bihar; we are with him."
Incarcerated RJD chief Lalu Prasad's Twitter handle also posted a couple of tweets in Hindi on Thursday, asking Nitish to demand special status for Bihar.
"Why is Nitish not asking his boss to accord special status to Bihar? PM Modi had promised special status to Bihar in a March 2014 Lok Sabha election rally at Muzaffarpur. Nitish must play that speech recording in front of PM. For personal gains Nitish surrendered Bihar's benefits," Lalu said in tweet.
RJD national spokesperson Manoj Jha, who was in Patna on Thursday, also slammed Nitish over the issue.
"I really do not know under what kind of pressure Mr Chief Minister has become silent over the issue. We are not begging for it, this is our right because since bifurcation we have been demanding special category status to Bihar. Both Prime Minister and Amit Shah have made it difficult for anyone to live in that collation. I believe that if Nitishji had even one per cent of his so-called conscience left in him, he must press for it and failing which Bihar will never ever forgive him," Jha said.
He also accused that Nitish has become "his master's voice" of Modi.
