Patna: RJD leader and Lalu Prasad's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav launched a campaign from his Assembly constituency Mahua on Sunday that is aimed at motivating party legislators to keep their ears to the ground.

"I have asked my MLAs to go to the people's houses and listen to their problems," he said while launching the Aapka Vidhayak Aapke Dwar (Your legislator at your door) programme from a government high school in Parmanandpur village. "It is the people who have made them MLAs and they are not supposed to sit at home. They should go out and spend time with people in their Assembly constituencies."

At the public meeting, Tej Pratap also told people to boot out chief minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi from power.

The former health minister recounted a story that Lalu has narrated to reporters several times before.

"I remember that day when Nitish had come to our house and begged in front of my father holding his feet," Tej Pratap said. "Nitish said that for the last time he wanted to become CM with the blessings of my father and after that the road is only for Tej Pratap and Tejashwi. Look at him today, where he has gone - under the feet of Narendra Modi."

Nitish, he added for good measure, had gone with "those who killed Mahatma Gandhi".

He mocked Nitish over the Patna University event on Saturday in which Nitish urged Prime Minister Modi to declare PU as a central university. "What kind of CM is he? He is begging with folded hands to the PM!" Tej Pratap said.

He claimed that crime was spiralling out of control in the state under the new government. He also claimed that his family is not afraid of anyone, be it CBI, income tax or Enforcement Directorate.
