Patna City: Residents have questioned the road construction department's move to dig up two roads - Guru Govind Singh Path and Bal Leela Gurudwara Road (in Patna City) - to widen cross-drain ducts.

Both roads were repaired just last year ahead of Prakash Utsav, sources said. Many said the roads had been rendered dangerous. "Authorities should be held responsible if any road accident takes place because of the digging," said Patna City resident Sunny Yadav.

Another resident, Amit Kanodia, said: "If any work was pending, they should have completed it before taking up road repair last year."

Devendra Singh, another resident, said: "I don't know what explanation the officials have for digging up the roads. Last year they dug up newly repaired roads, saying they had overlooked pipelines."

Patna City sub-divisional officer Yogendra Singh didn't take calls from The Telegraph. A road construction department official said: "The ducts of the cross drains were made short last year. This has created waterlogging problems. Work has now started to increase the ducts' width."
