Patna: Residents of Kajrain village near the Bharatiya Rail Bijlee Company Limited (BRBCL) thermal power plant at Nabinagar in Aurangabad district called off their agitation on Wednesday after an overnight battle with police followed by assurances from the plant management and the district administration to consider their demands.

A team of BRBCL and district officials met the protesting villagers at the spot near the Sone river where they were staging a sit-in after stopping the water supply to the power plant.

"The main demand of the villagers displaced due to the BRBCL plant was that they weren't given skilled and unskilled jobs as promised by the power plant management," said Aurangabad sub-divisional officer Surendra Prasad, who led the negotiation team. "BRBCL officials said they have given jobs. The plant will prepare a list of displaced people who have been given jobs and publish it within a month."
