Opp. finger at Nitish over Giriraj case
Patna: The RJD has decided to move the Election Commission seeking disqualification of the membership of Union minister Giriraj Singh for concealing information in his election affidavits.
The RJD's statement came in the wake of an FIR against the minister for allegedly grabbing the land belonging to a Dalit, Ram Narayan Prasad.
"Within a month, we will move the Election Commission to disqualify Giriraj Singh from the Lok Sabha because he had not given the information about the land which he grabbed from a Dalit in the 2014 Lok Sabha poll affidavit. We are in touch with legal experts to move the ECI," RJD national vice-president Shivanand Tiwari told the media at the party office.
The FIR has been lodged on the basis of a complaint filed by Danapur resident Ram Narayan who had approached the Patna civil court on July 13 last year, alleging that 33 people had conspired to grab his two acres and 56 decimals of land for sale and purchase.
Giriraj's name has also been included in the land-grab FIR since he allegedly bought a plot from a person who had no legal power to sell the land.
Shivanand questioned the credibility of Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj and alleged that he sat on the order for over six months. He accused chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi of suppressing the case. "Ram Narayan Prasad had filed the petition in the additional district and sessions judge-cum-special court SC/ST on July 13, 2017 about land-grabbing and the court had issued an order on July 14, 2017, asking the Patna SSP to lodge an FIR against the accused. Why was the FIR lodged after six months on February 2, 2018?"asked Shivanand.
Shivanand, accompanied by MLA Shakti Singh Yadav, said the police's first duty was to follow court orders and to probe the case. "Why did it take more than six months to lodge the FIR? I feel that there was pressure from the chief minister and the deputy chief minister (read Sushil Kumar Modi) not to lodge the FIR. But the new SHO got afraid about contempt of court and he was forced to lodge the FIR," Shivanand said.
The RJD leader claimed that Ram Narayan had explained his ordeal over phone from an undisclosed location on Thursday night. Shivanand said Ram was getting threat calls and feared for his life, which has forced him to go underground.
