Patna: The special investigation team (SIT) of the Patna police on Tuesday arrested an office-bearer of an NGO for alleged involvement in the toilet construction scam.

The SIT had earlier arrested three accused, including senior State Bank of India manager Shiv Kumar Jha, in connection with Rs 15 crore scam. All the three accused are lodged in the Beur central jail in Patna.

Acting on a tip-off, the members of the SIT headed by city superintendent of police D. Amarkesh intercepted a car on JC Road near BN College and took the secretary of the Bakhtiyarpur-based Sarveshwar Seva Sansthan, Manoj Kumar, into custody.

The car in which Manoj was travelling was also seized. Police said Manoj confessed to his involvement in the scam and told interrogators that he had siphoned off government funds in connivance with then executive engineer Vinay Kumar Sinha and accountant Biteshwar Prasad Singh.

Police sources said Manoj had disclosed that 40 per cent of the cut money was disbursed among the executive engineer and the accountant.
