Patna: Mayor Sita Sahu, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner Anupam Kumar Suman and ward councillors took to the streets on Sunday to underline the importance of cleanliness.
The mayor started the cleanliness drive at Ashok Rajpath early in the morning with councillors Kanchan Devi, Asfar Ahmad and many others.
Sahu cleaned the Patna Science College to Chajjubagh stretch.
"The cleanliness drive would be conducted every Sunday in which I would participate with the ward councillors and PMC officials to make people understand cleanliness. On Sunday we were divided into four groups to conduct the drive at four places. The PMC commissioner was leading a group at Mahendru. I went to interact with the shopkeepers at Ashok Rajpath who had not kept any dustbin in front of their shops and were littering the road with garbage. I pleaded them to keep dustbins and argued that Patna cannot be smart unless citizens participate in the drive to make it smart. We also kept dustbins at a few places during the drive," said Sahu.
Sahu said the PMC would buy modern equipment to conduct a cleanliness drive.
"The empowered standing committee of the corporation has given nod to purchase six road-sweeping machines. Besides de-silting and other sanitation machines would also be purchased. Purchase of the de-silting machine would also help in ensuring smooth cleaning of the manholes and drains throughout the year. The detailed project report for the purchase of the sanitation instrument would be sent to the urban development and housing department soon," added Sahu.
Sahu added that the corporation had decided to purchase sanitation instruments from the Centre's government e-marketplace (GeM) portal.
