Live wire kills 2 kids, injures 3

Patna: At least two children were killed and three others received severe burn injuries when their school van came in contact with a high-tension electric wire in Saran district, around 60km north of Patna, on Wednesday.

The mishap occurred around 1.30pm when 13 students of Mission of Pride School were being taken home. Lagan Kuer, a widow, rushed to the spot and rescued at least nine children who were trapped in the van. Two of them suffered serious burn injuries and died on way to the hospital.

The dead were identified as Raunak Kumar (6), a resident of Chitauni, and Aditi Kumari (6), a resident of Kamta village. Umesh Giri, the school owner who was driving the van, has suffered over 40 per cent burns. He, along with the other injured, have been admitted to Baniapur government hospital in Saran.

Sub-divisional police officer Ajay Kumar Singh said the wire fell on the vehicle suddenly. Saran superintendent of police Hari Kishore Rai said the families of the dead would be provided compensation.
