Kidnap hoaxes worry cops

Bettiah: A Class X student, who was feared kidnapped from Motihari, was reunited with his family on Thursday in what police said was a disturbing trend of kidnapping false alarms in East and West Champaran districts.

Motihari Town police station officer-in-charge Anand Kumar termed the phenomenon a crick in the police's neck.

On Wednesday, Shubhum left for his coaching class and didn't return home due to fear of getting reprimanded by his father for failing in a class test. Shubhum's father, a resident of Baniyapatti in Motihari, lodged a complaint with the Town police station. In similar incidents, Priyanshu Mishra and Roshan Kumar - residents of Motihari, disappeared on February 2 and 23, respectively, on being pressured to study. They were reunited with their families later.

On January 23, a madarsa student, Md. Saidullah, disappeared from the Nautan area in West Champaran, triggering a search by cops before it turned out to be a hoax. The boy came back the next day.
