Engineer shot dead in Saran over squabble
Patna: Unidentified armed criminals in Saran, around 60km north of Patna, gunned down a 40-year-old engineer working with a private construction company in Bengaluru late Saturday evening.
Police said the incident occurred around 7.30pm near Devadhi village on the busy Maraurha-Taraiya road when the victim identified as Krishna Mohan Tiwari was returning to his native village Kolhua from Tariaya on a motorcycle on Saturday.
Five criminals on three motorcycles intercepted Tiwari and pumped two bullets into his body. When Tiwari fell on the road, the assailants fled towards Taraiya on their motorcycles after issuing threats to the locals. The wallet and other valuable things on Tiwari were found intact.
A few residents in the area rushed the injured to a local primary health centre from where he was referred to Chhapra sadar hospital. He, however, succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital. Later, a police team from Bhagwan Bazar police station reached the spot and inquired about the incident.
Deceased's father Parshuram Tiwari said his son had come to Kolhua two weeks ago to attend the funeral of his sister's father-in-law.
"On Saturday, he had gone to meet his sister and was returning home when the incident occurred," the father said.
The station house officer of Bhagwan Bazar police station Surendra Kumar said the deceased had a heated argument with the assailants near Devadhi following which one of them shot at Tiwari. The motive of the assailants behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. Sub-divisional police officer Ajay Kumar said a special police team headed by the station house officer of Bhagwan Bazar has been set up to crack the case. The members of the SIT conducted raids on suspected hideouts of the assailants on Sunday.
This is the second incident of murder of an engineer in Saran. Earlier, unidentified armed criminals near Sonepur in Saran gunned down an engineer identified as Veermani Kumar, 35, who was posted with the rural development department in Vaishali, on December 11 last year.
Police claimed that Veermani, a resident of Digha in Patna, was killed over a property dispute.
