Dona Ganguly and daughter Sana would miss Sourav Ganguly’s innings on May 3, when Pune Warriors would take on Mumbai Indians on home ground, and so would many dance enthusiasts in Patna.
Reason: Sourav’s wife and daughter would enthral city residents with Rabindranath Tagore’s dance drama Chitrangada on the evening of May 3.
An Odissi dancer, Dona will perform for the first time in Patna at Rabindra Parishad with her troupe, Diksha Manjari. Ten-year-old Sana will also play a small role in the dance drama (performed in Hindi).
Sandip Roy, the convener of the programme and one of the members of Rabindra Parishad, told The Telegraph: “Dona Ganguly has agreed to perform at Rabindra Parishad on May 3. It will be a part of our celebrations of the 150th birth anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore.”
When The Telegraph contacted Dona, she said: “I am very excited about this programme. This would be the first time I would perform in Patna. Last year, when I performed Chitrangada in Calcutta, I got a very good response. I hope Patnaites too would love our performance. My daughter Sana will also play a small role in the dance drama. Though there was no role for Sana in the dance drama, we have put in one, as she loves to dance.”
Dona added: “My mother is also accompanying me to the event. She never leaves me alone at any programme. Her presence encourages me to do well so I make sure she is present at all of my programmes.”
Roy said entry to the programme will be free, but on first-come-first-served basis.
