Patna: The JDU is gearing up for its state executive committee meet on September 16 in which chief minister Nitish Kumar, also the Dal's national president, will be present.

The meeting has been called by JDU state unit president and Rajya Sabha MP Bashishtha Narayan Singh at Nitish's 1 Aney Marg residence.

JDU leaders said the meeting has been called to talk on strengthening the party at the grassroots level and expand it in other states, but sources said the meeting was purely with regard to the 2019 Lok Sabha election and its preparation.

The Lok Sabha election is on top of the meeting's agenda because, JDU sources said, the NDA has finished seat-sharing talks and only a formal announcement remains to be made in the next 15-20 days. That is the reason why national-level leaders, including K.C. Tyagi, have been asked to attend.

"Seat-sharing talks in the NDA are already over," a senior JDU leader who is also member of the state executive committee, said. "A formal announcement will be made shortly. There will be no seat-sharing talks at the September 16 meeting. The focus will be on preparations for the 2019 election. So to boost the morale of party leaders and workers before the election, it is important to have face-to-face communication. That day, the leaders will be given the task of holding the upcoming general election."

He said a meeting of leaders and workers before any crucial decision is a way to read their minds and its probable implication. A few days back, Bashishtha had announced that seat-sharing talks are in the final stages and a formal announcement will be made anytime in September.

It is learnt that Nitish has secretly communicated to leaders who are all set to contest the 2019 general elections to make preparations in their respective constituencies.

The executive meeting will be attended by all JDU MLAs, MLCs, members of the state executive committee and JDU district presidents across the state.

JDU state general secretary and headquarters in-charge Anil Kumar said the purpose of the meeting was to expand the party and make people aware about the Nitish Kumar government's works. Discussing the agenda of the meet, Anil Kumar mentioned "how to strengthen the party at the block and panchayat level, to make people aware about the government's scheme and the other social awareness campaign like against dowry, child marriage and prohibition."

The meeting will start at 11am before which all state office functionaries have been called to Bashishtha's house to discuss the meeting's agenda.
