Patna: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has decided to carry out on-spot admission of students to fill up vacant seats in the degree colleges.
The on-spot admission will be conducted between September 13 and September 17. The BSEB decided to go for the on-spot admission for first-year undergraduate courses, as several seats are vacant despite the board issuing a third admission list.
The board this year introduced centralised admission under online facilitation system for students (OFSS). The board has issued a notice in this connection.
Three kinds of students can participate in the on-spot admission. Those who have not found their name in the third list can apply for on-spot admission, students whose name figure in OFSS list but have not taken admission. The board has also given opportunity to students who have not even applied for OFSS.
BSEB chairman Anand Kishor said: "We are giving an opportunity to students who have failed to take admission in any college and also to those whose name does not figure in the third list."
Students who want to take admission have to go through the OFSS website to find out the list of colleges where seats are vacant. The student has to apply for vacant seats in OFSS and then approach the college for admission. Respective colleges have been asked to publish the fresh list of students by September 20.
Sources said the on-spot admission will affect unaided colleges in sub-divisional headquarters. Most of the seats are vacant in unaided colleges, as majority of the seats in constituent colleges have been filled.
Under the OFSS, the admission had to be carried out at 440 colleges, which include 248 constituent colleges and the rest unaided. A board official said: "Seats are vacant in unaided colleges in rural areas under Magadh University, Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (Bhagalpur), BRA Bihar University (Muzaffarpur) and others."
