Shikhar is back at nets
Calcutta: Shikhar Dhawan, who sustained an ankle injury before India left for the tour of South Africa, batted at nets in Cape Town on Tuesday.
The left-hander has been doubtful for the first Test starting Friday ever since he hurt his ankle. But the fact that he practised on Tuesday suggests Dhawan is recovering well.
"Shikhar Dhawan seems to have recovered from the reported ankle injury - he batted at nets," said a cricket-specific website.
However, at least in the opening Test, India are most likely to go in with Murali Vijay and Lokesh Rahul as the openers.
During Tuesday's practice session, Vijay and Rahul batted next to each other at nets and also spent some time talking to each other.
"They batted next to each other at nets, they walked together to and from the nets and spent a lot of time talking to each other," the website said.
Even though Dhawan has been in pretty good form, Vijay and Rahul too have done well as an opening pair as India will certainly be pinning hopes on the duo to get the team off to a solid start.
