Malinga dropped for T20Is
Colombo: Lasith Malinga has been dropped from the Sri Lanka T20I squad for the three-match series against India, starting December 20, in Cuttack. The list has been ratified by sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekera.
The list, however, says Malinga has been rested without stating any reason.
Malinga recently took part in the Bangladesh Premier League but left midway without stating any reason.
Malinga’s form has been extremely patchy of late. His economy rate in his two most-recent BPL games was well over 10. Suranga Lakmal and Lahiru Thirimanne have also been rested. Vishwa Fernando and Dasun Shanaka have replaced them in the squad.
Meanwhile, in a big relief for Sri Lanka, former captain and all-rounder Angelo Mathews has recovered from cramps and is available for selection for the series-deciding third ODI against India in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
Mathews, who suffered cramps during his unbeaten century in the second ODI in Mohali on December 13, bowled and batted as the Sri Lanka cricket team hit the ground running by taking part in a training session on Friday. Mathews had a couple of batting stints and also bowled some overs in between.
Team manager Asanka Gurusinha said Mathews is fit and will be available for the series decider.
