Calcutta: East Bengal's injury list seems to be growing by the day.
After Carlyle Mitchell and Nikhil Poojary, VP Suhair too has got indisposed. The young striker, who impressed in this year's Calcutta Football League, sustained an ankle injury during East Bengal's training session at the Barasat Stadium on Wednesday.
Suhair underwent an MRI and the report will be out on Thursday. Club sources say the injury seems to be a serious one and it will take time for Suhair to be back on the field.
He wasn't a part of the East Bengal squad for Sunday's I-League Derby against Mohun Bagan. But given how the Willis Plazas have been performing upfront, presence of someone like Suhair, who can surprise the opposition, could well have provided coach Khalid Jamil with at least another option.
East Bengal, meanwhile, have written to the AIFF about allotting a revised date for the return-leg I-League Derby against Bagan. The game is scheduled to be held on January 13 next year at the Salt Lake Stadium, but police said they won't be able to depute enough personnel on account of the Gangasagar Mela.
