Door 'open' for Ashwin and Jadeja
Calcutta: Given the consistency with which Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been performing, it seems really difficult for Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to get back into the Indian XI in ODIs.
However, according to bowling coach Bharat Arun, the door remains open for both Ashwin and Jadeja as far as the 2019 World Cup is concerned. “We had a good pool of bowlers and given the volume of cricket we are playing, we needed to keep rotating these bowlers and keep them fresh for every format. Chahal and Yadav showed a lot of promise.
“We thought that in these conditions, wrist spinners would do a lot more than finger spinners and they have come to the party here,” he said. “We wanted to look at the existing talent in the pool and then we wanted to decide who we needed for the World Cup.
“It’s not that Ashwin and Jadeja are out of the race. They could still be included in the team… The door is still open,” Arun said on the eve of the fourth ODI versus South Africa.
Praising both Chahal and Yadav, Arun added: “The two spinners have been outstanding in the ODIs. They have got a lot of talent and lots of abilities. They have troubled the best batsmen in the business back home. We were very confident that they would come here and make inroads into their batting.”
