Comeback for Vivek Singh
Calcutta: Vivek Singh has been included in the 16-member Bengal squad for the zonal leg of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 meet to be held in Ranchi from January 8.
The tournament has been rescheduled by the Board keeping in mind the Indian Premier League auction which will be held at the end of the month.
Vivek Singh last played in the national T20 tournament in 2016 for Railways.
Also included in the squad has been Sumanta Gupta, who so far has been quite impressive for Kalighat in club cricket. Anustup Majumder has also been rewarded for his superb form in the Ranji Trophy.
Manoj Tiwary and Sudip Chatterjee have been retained as captain and vice-captain, respectively.
This will be Bengal's first tournament after losing to Delhi in the Ranji Trophy semi-final.
Abhishek Raman and Pradipta Pramanik have not been included. Abhishek with 623 runs from eight matches was Bengal's top scorer in the Ranji Trophy this season.
Sreevats Goswami will keep wickets.
Meanwhile, the Jhulan Goswami-led Bengal women's team will resume net practice at Jadavpur University Campus ground, Salt Lake from 12.30 pm on Wednesday.
