Bengal's fitness troubles
Calcutta: Defending champions Bengal are grappling with fitness problem of most of their probables, as they get ready to play the Santosh Trophy East Zone qualifiers beginning on January 29.
"Most of the players who have reported for practice haven't played competitive football after the Durga Puja. So after 20-25 minutes they are getting tired. There is hardly any time to prepare, so I have done away with the conditioning camp also. I just hope we pass through the first round," coach Ranjan Choudhury said, after a practice session at the East Bengal ground on Saturday.
Bengal got a boost when Jiten Murmu, Saikat Saha Roy and Tirthankar Sarkar joined practice. "Most of the players are inexperienced. I am hopeful that the seniors will guide the younger players," Choudhury added.
