Hartford, Nov. 19 : Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes, the world?s top-ranked doubles team, won their second match in round-robin play, defeating Ellis Ferreira of South Africa and American Rick Leach 6-4, 6-4 yesterday at the Phoenix ATP Tour World Doubles Championship. Bhupahti and Paes lead their bracket with a 2-0 mark and are virtually assured of a berth in Saturday?s semi-finals. Ferreira and Leach, the No. 3 seeds, are 1-1 and still hope to make the semi-finals. The top two teams from the two-bracket tournament advance to the semi-finals Saturday. Australians Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde, the No. 2 seeds, assured themselves of a berth in the semi-finals with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory over Canadian Sebastian Lareau and American Alex O?Brien, the No. 4 seeds. In afternoon matches, American Jared Palmer and Paul Haarhuis of The Netherlands defeated David Adams and John-Laffnie de Jager of South Africa 6-4, 7-5. Haarhuis and Palmer, the No. 7 seeded team, are 1-1 in their bracket. Adams and De Jager, seeded No. 5, are winless after two matches. Wayne Black of Zimbabwe and Australian Sandon Stolle, the No. 6 seeds, improved their record to 1-1 with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory over Kevin Ullyett of Zimbabwe and South African Piet Norval, the No. 8 seed.
