London: “There are no issues with Duncan Fletcher... I’ve already spent a couple of hours with him and the captain (Mahendra Singh Dhoni)... It’s all good,” Ravi Shastri told The Telegraph on Wednesday.

Appointed team director for the upcoming ODIs and the T20I against England, former captain Shastri met head coach Fletcher and Dhoni at the team hotel on Tuesday evening.

With Shastri “overall in-charge” of cricket matters, Fletcher will be reporting to him.

Shastri, by the way, joins the touring party on Saturday by when the new support staff would have arrived. He wasn’t present during the ODI squad’s practice session, at Lord’s, during the day.

“I could be there for a while during Friday’s match against Middlesex, though,” Shastri said.

As the new faces — Sanjay Bangar, Bharat Arun and Ramakrishnan Sridhar — are yet to arrive, the Board has requested Joe Dawes and Trevor Penney to remain in London “for a couple of days.”

It’s a terribly awkward situation for Dawes and Penney, but both were present at Lord’s during the practice session.

With so much happening off the field, there will be more responsibility on manager Amitabh Choudhary, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association president.

Choudhary, however, insisted everything was “calm” and that the players were “excited” about the challenge.

Incidentally, Choudhary had been the manager when Sourav Ganguly and Greg Chappell had that showdown in Zimbabwe, nine years ago.
