Calcutta: Mohammedan Sporting suffered a 1-2 loss to Tollygunge Agragami in a CFL Premier Division A tie on Tuesday at their home ground. Kareem Omolaja Nurain and Palsang Lama scored for Tollygunge, while Leonce Dodoz found the target for Mohammedan Sporting.
Coach Mridul Banerjee's men started on a positive note. Dodoz got a very good chance to score inside first 10 minutes but couldn't capitalise.
Against the run of the play, Tollygunge took the lead in the 26th minute when defender Kareem converted a free-kick from just outside the box.
Stung by the goal, Mohammedan Sporting started playing more aggressively and got the equaliser within the next eight minutes when Dodoz scored off a low cross sent down by Manvir Singh from the right. However, Tollygunge regained their lead when Lama head home Joel Sunday's free-kick in the 39th minute. It was 2-1 in favour of Tollygunge at the half-time itself. Post break, Mohammedan Sporting players tried to equalise, but Tollygunge's packed defence made it all the more difficult for them. Without doubt, Banerjee was very disappointed with his team's performance. "We conceded both the goals from free-kick and that too, against the run of the play. We could have still won this game. "But since we missed so many chances, it didn't go our way," the Mohammedan Sporting coach said.
Asked about the faults of his players, Banerjee said: "Look, we have not been too bad, but there are few areas where we need a major improvement."
On the other hand, Tollygunge coach Ranjan Chowdhury was all smiles. "Our players have executed plans really well. I am very pleased with team's performance," Chowdhury said.
