Calcutta: West Indies registered their second victory in the ICC World Cup Qualifier, being played in Harare.
A classy captain’s knock from Jason Holder ensured that the Caribbean team go into the weekend with two wins from two matches.
It was a hard-fought and somewhat nervy victory for the West Indies over a spirited Papua New Guinea on Thursday. Chasing a 201-run target, the West Indies were in big trouble at one stage being reduced to 58/4.
Holder and No.3 batsman Shai Hope took the West Indies home with 46 balls and six wickets to spare.
Both the openers, Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyar, fell for single figures, before Marlon Samuels, for a breezy 24, and Jason Mohammed for a duck, too were dismissed.
Holder remained not out on 99.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan crashed to their third straight loss as they were beaten by 30 runs (via the Duckworth/Lewis method) by Hong Kong.
