Calcutta: Former Indian captain and coach P.K. Banerjee has been bestowed the prestigious Fifa Centennial Order of Merit, the AIFF said on Tuesday.

Banerjee, football columnist for The Telegraph, was part of the Indian team which won the Asian Games gold in 1962. He was also a member of the team that came fourth at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956.

“Getting such recognition always feels good. My wife would have been the happiest today had she been alive,” said Banerjee from Mumbai.
