Calcutta: Rajasthan Royals' poor batting was the main reason behind their defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday, captain Ajinkya Rahane pointed out.
The Royals had raced to 63 for no loss in the fifth over, but could add only 79 more from thereon losing all their wickets. Barring openers Jos Buttler and Rahul Tripathi, and Jaydev Unadkat towards the end, none of the other batsmen came up with a decent contribution. Captain Rahane's rough patch too continues.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, a disappointed Rahane said: "I think the intent was positive. Jos and Tripathi batted really well and when I went in, I just wanted to carry the momentum forward. "Jos was again batting so well, but it's not just up to him all the time. All batsmen will have to take responsibility. We lost just because we batted badly."
Rahane still believes Royals can make the play-offs. "We still have a chance... It's about learning from this game and moving forward," he said.
They must win their final game in the league phase, which is against Royal Challengers Bangalore at home on Saturday. But the Royals will miss both Buttler and Ben Stokes, both of whom have got a call-up for England's first Test against Pakistan that starts on May 24.
"We know how the wicket will in Jaipur, so we are looking forward to that game. We will definitely miss Jos and Ben as we all know how dangerous they are.
