Guwahati: Assam police on Monday arrested a 27-year-old youth for uploading his Facebook profile picture with Pakistani flag. The temporary profile picture frame uploaded by him also has a tagline in Urdu "Meri Pehchan Pakistan (Pakistan is my identity)".

Morigaon SP Swapnaneel Deka said the accused, Jahirul Islam, is a resident of Bhurbandha. He said a case was registered against Islam at Morigaon police station under Section 153A (promoting enmity among people on grounds of religion, race, residence and language and doing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony) IPC.

"Relevant section of the Information Technology Act, 2000, will also be added against him," Deka said. The accused will be produced in the court on Tuesday. The SP said it is suspected that the accused had uploaded the profile picture frame in a bid to vitiate the atmosphere before Independence Day.
