UMF agrees to merger

The United Minority Front (UMF) agreed to merge with the newly formed United Democratic Front (UDF) on Sunday. The party has deputed three of its senior leaders to finalise the merger. The UMF has placed three conditions for the merger ? a halt to the formation of the UDF district units till the merger is complete, accommodation of the UMF leaders in the UDF and lastly, recognition of UMF frontal organisations as UDF ones.

Function

R.B. Barman, executive director of the Reserve Bank of India, inaugurated the silver jubilee function of the co-operative city bank on Sunday.

Language

A delegation of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, city chapter, recently met the BSNL?s chief general manager and demanded the use of Assamese language in the customer service system of CellOne.

Free check-up

A free health check-up and awareness camp was organised at the number 2 Mathgharia Lower Primary School on Saturday. Altogether 365 people, including schoolstudents, were given free health check-ups.

Workshop

The Tax Bar Association organised a study circle on Scrutiny Assessment ? Law Practice and Procedures under the Income Tax Act on Saturday. Several prominent lawyers attended the discussion.

Travelogue

The Institute of Mass Communication and Media recently organised a lecture on how to write a travelogue. Popular travel writer Ruby Kakoti delivered the lecture.

Harmony

The Guwahati Refinery recently organised Communal Harmony Day on its premises. A free medical camp for the poor and an essay competition for the schoolchildren were organised on the occasion.

Conference

The 10th state-level conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad will be held on Friday and Saturday. Assamese actor Biju Phukan will attend the conference.
