t2 says cheers to a new wine club
As a part of Festa Italiana 2017, the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IICCI) launched the Calcutta chapter of Italics Wine Club on December 15 at The Oberoi Grand. The launch was marked by a wine-tasting session as well, conducted by wine experts Luca Bernardini and Subhasis Ganguli, with four wines — two whites and two reds — from Italian wine producers. Glimpses from the evening...
“With this launch, we intend to initiate Calcuttans into the Italian wine culture. This city loves its food and wine and Italy makes some of the best wines. So the launch of Italics is apt,” said Pankaj Parekh, chairman, IICCI Eastern Region Committee.
Subhasis Ganguli (left) and Luca Bernardini swirled and sniffed glasses of wine and voiced their views about each variant to wine lovers in the audience. “Every region in Italy is famous for a different kind of wine and with this wine club, we intend to inform guests about the vast variety of tastes that Italy has to offer,” said Luca, a Mumbai-based wine expert who also holds masterclasses on wine tasting and pairings in different cities.
(From left) Russiz Superiore Collio Sauvignon (white), Pinot Grigio (white), Porpora (red) and Roccolo (red) were the four wines that were tasted at the launch.
These were paired with a cheese platter, some mild pickled chutney and asparagus. The Porpora was the clear favourite with the guests.
