With jamais across the city waiting for their big day on Jamai Sashthi, Sonar Tori at City Centre Salt Lake is planning to lay out a feast fit for kings.
“Our philosophy is to revisit Bengal’s culinary past and revive the lost dishes that were once famous in the now-extinct Thakurbari culture. We hold on to traditions and Jamai Sashthi is no exception,” said Swarup Chatterjee, sous chef, Ambuja Neotia Hospitality. “Our executive chefs with their special menus have prepared a lavish fest for this festival of Bengal to make it a family affair,” said Nitin Kohli, director, Ambuja Neotia Hospitality. With their new menu celebrating the occasion and newly-weds Gaurav Chakrabarty and Ridhima Ghosh dropping in to sample the fare, it’s already a festive affair at the Bengali speciality restaurant.
The new jamai got a maiden taste of what it feels like to be pampered when Ridhima decided to feed him a Mangsher Shammi Kabab. “This is my first Jamai Sashthi since we got married and I’m really excited. We’re going to my in-laws’ house for lunch and I’m hoping to finally get pampered more than Ridhima for a day,” said Gaurav. While both of them had fairly different tastes in food, health concerns went for a toss when the desserts arrived. “My in-laws already treat me like it’s ‘bou’ Sashthi whenever we meet. As for Jamai Sashthi, my mother plans to make us sit and eat together instead of just the jamai, so that leaves no scope for complaint!” Ridhima added.
