Giridih, June 17: Rampant illegal mining has increased the number of mine mishap deaths.

There has been a considerable increase not only in illegal coal mining but also in mica and stone quarring.

Sources said illegal mining is rampant in summer. But in monsoon, due to mine-slide, two to three people die every month.

Sources said most of the miners are from tribal families.

They are unaware of the special law. So they cannot raise their voice up to the judiciary.

The violation of human rights in these mines has put a question on the life of these workers.

Recently Dukhan Mia, a worker from Maheshmunda, has died. His family has been offered Rs 15,000 for not reporting the case to the police station.

A family member said the contractor has given heavy amount to the Muffasil police station people for not registering the case.

In another incident, at least four people have been seriously injured. They have been treated in a nursing home but no FIR has been lodged.

Sources said the contractor has spent more than Rs 50,000 to close the story.

The district superintendent of police Tadasha Mishra said: “It should be a prime concern for the CCL to watch the illegal activities in their areas. While we have no confirm news regarding this, but if reported we will take action.”

False case: Phagu Manjhi has been languishing in jail since years now with the charges that he never committed.

Phagu was falsely implicated twice by the Giridih police for being associated with extremists and involved in blasting of landmines.

Though he was innocent investigating officer (IO) Parmeshwar Dayal branded him as a criminal.

Later, after through investigations the then Superintendent of Police, exasperated Phagu from all charges.

But by that time the Superintendent of Police finalised his supervision report, 28 months had lapsed and Phagu was again left behind bars.

While Phagu was in jail, Police implicated him in another case of blasting to disrupt police movement.

This time, the IO and later the DSP also blamed Phagu for the incident.

BJP leader Sanchindra Singh, in a letter to the chief minister, has requested on an in-depth inquiry into the matter.
