Ranchi, Aug. 8: Peeved at the “unsavoury” remarks of Dhanbad MP Chandrashekhar Dubey, state Congress president Thomas Hansda has decided to take up the matter with the party’s high command.
Dubey had recently demanded Hansda’s resignation owing to his poor health condition.
Hansda told reporters that the party has taken strong exception to Dubey’s remarks. “I am going to recommend disciplinary action against him to the high command. I will brief the AICC Jharkhand in-charge and Congress Working Committee member Harikesh Bahadur on the matter when he arrives here on Tuesday,” Hansda said.
“Who is he to demand my resignation? I have been appointed by the high command. It is only the high command, which can remove me from the post. I am not bothered about what Dubey says. However, if the high command asks me to step down I will not wait even for a moment. In fact, I can even jump into fire if Soniaji asks me to do so,” the Congress leader maintained.
“The fact that the Congress-led alliance emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha election cannot be ignored. What is lacking in me in terms of performance? And why should I be removed if my performance as state Congress president has been good? However, if the high command wishes me to put in my papers, I will do it without any hesitation,” he added.
The man whose comment triggered the controversy, Dubey, was not available for remarks.
The JPCC president asserted that he was in control of the party organisation and indicated that a revamp was on the cards. Hansda also pointed out that he has recommended the names for the vacant president’s post in six districts.
He revealed that the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee would also be expanded in consultation with Bahadur.
Reacting to the remarks of Governor Ved Prakash Marwah on the condition of the state, Hansda said the Arjun Munda government has no “moral” right to continue in office. “We demand the chief minister’s resignation as the constitutional head has pointed a finger at the way the government functions,” he added.
Bahadur, who will visit the state for the first time after he took charge of the affairs of the state Congress, is scheduled to take part in a number of programmes and meet party workers.
