Lucknow: The name and picture of cricketer Virat Kohli have appeared in a voter slip in the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency although he is not a voter from the seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Voting will be held in Gorakhpur, which was represented by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, on March 11.

The voter slip was spotted by a booth-level officer in the Sahajanwa Assembly segment on Thursday.

Sunita Chaubey, the officer, told reporters she saw the picture of the Team India captain on the voter slip and alerted her seniors.

"I was surprised to see his name," she said.

The identity number in the voter list is RHB2231801 and the voter serial number is 822.

Prabhu Nath, the additional district magistrate, said: "The name of the cricketer was published by mistake. We are correcting it."

Samajwadi Party leaders said it was evidence that the state government was involved in making fake voter lists as the BJP was not confident of winning the bypolls.
