New Delhi, April 13: Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj has topped a first-ever ranking of Union ministers on how fast and efficiently they respond to public grievances on Twitter.

The Prime Minister's office, which conducted the ranking exercise, has put railway minister Suresh Prabhu - who tries to turn troubleshooter every time someone tweets him with a complaint during a rail journey - at the second position.

Piyush Goyal, the minister of state (independent charge) for power, coal and new and renewable energy stands at number three, followed by culture and tourism and junior civil aviation minister Mahesh Sharma.

Jayant Sinha, the junior finance minister, has been ranked at five.

Senior government officials said that the ranking was done after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a cabinet meeting in January, had asked all the ministers managing service-providing portfolios to follow the example of Prabhu.

Modi has in the past urged all the ministers to actively use Twitter and Facebook for public outreach.

Sources in the Modi's public relations unit pointed out that it was Sushma who had first started "troubleshooting" through Twitter last year.

Prabhu has offered "quick-fix" solutions to the problems tweeted by train travellers.
