Rivers in spate, villages submerged
A road inundated with floodwater in Raxaul block's Dhupwa Tola village, around 45km north of Motihari, the East Champaran district headquarters and roughly 200km north of Patna. About six to seven rivers originating in Nepal are in spate and flowing above the danger mark, triggering floods in Dhupwa Tola and Adapur - right next to the embankments bordering the Himalayan country. The nearest rivers from these villages are Sariswa and Tilawe, around 10-12km away, which flow between Nepal and India. Roads, fields, electric poles, roadside shops have all come in the way of the floodwaters. Till 8pm on Saturday, the water had reached Chauradano village in Raxaul block, another 10km east of Adapur village. Sub-divisional magistrate, Raxaul, Sri Prakash is camping in the bordering villages and has made arrangements for at least two boats. He said the water was flowing around 4-5 feet high around 7pm on Saturday. A high alert has been sounded.
