Neighbourly advice to New Delhi
Dhaka: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said India should try to improve its ties with its neighbours.
"India should try to improve its relationship with its neighbours and that will help development of the region," Hasina told Indian journalists during an informal interaction.
The Prime Minister did not elaborate but her suggestion came at a time India's relations with even its most trusted allies in the neighbourhood have hit a nadir. The latest example is the Maldives, which has openly snubbed New Delhi on the state of emergency there.
Asked whether India needs to worry because of Bangladesh's ties with China, Hasina said her interest lay in the development of her country and everyone was welcome. "India is our closest neighbour. India should not worry," she added.
