Chandigarh, Nov. 12 (PTI): The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh has withheld for an indefinite period the results of the 7,300 candidates who took the MD entrance exam on Saturday.

The decision came after the CBI took 14 people, including seven girls, on remand till November 15 to probe a racket in solving the exam paper.

Vaghela rap

New Delhi (PTI): The Election Commission has issued a notice to Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela for allegedly inciting “communal feelings” while campaigning in Gujarat’s Surat.It took the step after prima facie finding that Vaghela had violated the model code of conduct by referring to the post-Godhra violence in his speeches.

New Delhi (PTI): Pakistan interior minister Rehman Malik’s visit to India on November 22-23 to operationalise the Indo-Pak visa agreement is unlikely to take place as home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, the leader of the Lok Sabha, will be busy in Parliament, sources said.

MLA arrest

Rajkot (PTI): A Nationalist Congress Party MLA has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a 2008 water sector reforms project scam in Gujarat’s Rajkot, police said. Chandu Vaghasia has been on the wanted list since the Rs 50 lakh scam came to light four years ago.

Trekker dies

Nashik (PTI): A trekker died after falling into an 80ft-deep valley while climbing the Dangya Sulka hill at Trimbakeshwar on Sunday. Sandeep Patade, 21, climbed the hill upto 135m with his friends when honeybees attacked them. He lost his balance and fell into the valley, police said.

Maratha plea

Nashik (PTI): Sambhaji Brigade has demanded inclusion of the Maratha community in the backward class category during their sixth national convention in Nashik. “The Maratha community is being kept away from reservations, but we will continue our efforts to get it,” state’s agriculture minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil said.
