House delay protest

New Delhi: The Congress is working on a joint Opposition protest against the Centre's "inordinate" delay in calling the winter session of Parliament, normally convened in the third week of November.

Sources said leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, the Congress's Ghulam Nabi Azad, has consulted leaders of friendly parties to discuss the issue and an Opposition delegation may call on President Ram Nath Kovind to lodge a formal complaint.

While the Congress has been criticising the government and saying it was putting off the session because of the Gujarat polls next month, senior leaders of other parties like Sharad Yadav and Sitaram Yechury have also slammed the delay and described it as "anti-democratic".
