Dawood aide deported from Dubai
New Delhi: The CBI on Thursday arrested a key accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case and Dawood Ibrahim aide from Delhi airport after he was deported to India from Dubai.
Yasin Mansoor Mohammed Farooq alias Farooq Takla, 57, had recently been arrested by Dubai authorities and deported to India on Thursday morning.
"Farooq is accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and had fled from India soon after that. A Red Corner notice was issued against him in 1995," an Intelligence Bureau officer said.
Farooq is accused of murder, criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder and voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons, among other charges.
The CBI refused to officially comment on how Farooq reached Delhi. Officials in the Union home ministry said he was deported from the UAE with the help of RAW and was put on a flight to Delhi.
"This is a big diplomatic victory for India," a ministry official said.
Farooq was taken from Delhi to Mumbai to be produced before the court hearing the serial blasts case. The Mumbai blasts killed 257 people.
