All in a day
IN AGARTALA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday appealed to voters in Tripura to choose “Hira” — highways, i-ways, roadways and airways - over “Manik” in the February 18 Assembly election. The Left Front government in the state is led by chief minister Manik Sarkar. “People have worn the wrong gemstone (Manik) for long. It’s time you changed it to Hira,” Modi told an election rally (in PTI picture).
IN NEW DELHI: The Congress sought an apology from Modi for his “disgraceful” comments about Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury.
“The Prime Minister crossed the limit. He brought down the dignity of the office he holds. Their mentality is to disrespect women. All this ‘beti bachao, beti padhao’ is a farce,” party spokesperson Anand Sharma said.
Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev said: “I express my shock at the utterly sexist and downright distasteful comment against a member of Parliament by none less than the Prime Minister. I personally feel that this attitude and comment directed at Renuka Chowdhury belittles the office of the Prime Minister and amounts to an insult to each and every woman in the country.”
