New Delhi: Fifteen political parties on Friday petitioned President Ram Nath Kovind for a Supreme Court-monitored special investigation team probe into the circumstances leading to the death of special CBI court judge Brijgopal Harkishan Loya.

Loya was presiding over the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case in which BJP president Amit Shah was discharged after the judge died.

The delegation representing the 15 parties met the President to submit their memorandum in which they have put on record that "neither the CBI nor the NIA, considering their recent track record, should be entrusted with the investigation".

The memorandum refers to the deaths of two confidants of Judge Loya under "suspicious circumstances". While referring to the two deaths, the memorandum cites the claim of a Nagpur-based lawyer that Loya had confided in them that he was being pressurised through inducement to give a judgment in favour of the accused.

The 15 parties which have signed the memorandum are the Congress, Trinamul Congress, Samajwadi Party, NCP, DMK, RJD, CPI, CPM, AAP, IUML, Kerala Congress (Mani), RSP, AIUDF, JD(S) and the JMM.
